COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is a
study of visual organization. Theories of spatial organization and designing in
various materials will be studied.

STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Understand and utilize the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
- Employ a variety of materials commonly used in three dimensional design.
- Participate in oral and written critiques of artworks as well as works in progress.
- Develop and understand of the relationship of form and concept
- Understand compositional strategies.
- Develop and personalize the design processes.
- Understand and practice analyzing art.
GRADES WILL BE BASED ON
20% Weekly
Response: Attendance, participation in class discussions/critiques, written
responses, quizzes, clean and orderly use of studio, exercises,
definitions, research, brainstorming, sketches, required reading, notes and
event attendance*.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
Professional
Culture: Come to class prepared to give your best each day. Be
respectful and kind. Be earnest about learning. Hand in
your work on time. Come to class prepared!! When we are working in class
as a studio day, make sure you have the materials that you will need. Use the
class blog to get ahead whenever possible. All class critiques are group
critiques this means that every student in the class is expected to
participate. This includes having your work displayed and ready for the
critique in a timely fashion, as well as participating in the critical
discussions of others work. Plan ahead to spend 3-5 hours per week on home
assignments. If at any time you are having problems TALK TO ME, my
contact info is at the top of the syllabus. I am willing to help you as much as
you need. Regarding CELL PHONE USE, please wait until after class or step
outside of the classroom to answer important calls or reply to a text. Please
wear headphones when listening to audio.
ATTENDANCE
Be on time,
arriving to class 10 minutes late,
disappearing from class for unusual periods of time, or leaving early will be
constituted as tardy. Two such instances will be counted as one absence. After
3 unexcused absents you are subject to failure of the course. If you know you are going to be absent e-mail me. I
will hold students responsible to follow the University accepted
excuses. Attendance will be factored into your overall grade. Please see
university's policy, as poor attendance, and/or regular tardiness to class will
lower your overall grade and/or be grounds for failure.
DROPS
A student who
wishes to withdraw from the course, or who has missed too many classes, must
accomplish the standard process for dropping a class by January 30th.
